The time for playdough has come to our house. At 20 months, I felt the munchkin was ready, and she loved it!
I decided to make homemade playdough because it is much cheaper than buying it from the store. And, I was also afraid she might eat it, which she did, as did our dog. I would rather have her eat homemade playdough, than commercially made playdough. At least I know what is in the playdough I make.
I found this great recipe on one of my favorite blogs, Becoming Domestic. The recipe is so easy! The hardest part was washing the bowl after it was made.
Playdough
Ingredients:
1/2 cup salt
1 cup flour
1 tablespoon cream of tarter
1 tablespoon oil
1 cup boiling water
1. Mix all the ingredients in a large bowl.
Yeah, it’s that easy! Store in a plastic bag or container.

Did you give her any utensils or toys to use with the play dough? We’ll have to try that soon. I love activities that keep her busy while in lockdown in the high chair. Coloring is starting to lose it’s appeal.
I bought her some Play-Doh brand toys. She liked the cookie cutters and the roller. It does keep her occupied in the high chair for a while.
You are much braver than I am! Still have never tried Playdough on 2 yr old. She eats her crayons and feeds them to the dogs, can’t imagine what she’d do with that. I’m afraid it would go straight into the hair – her and the dogs.
My pumpkin eats crayons too. At least our dog doesn’t. She did eat the playdough though, as did the dog!
The playdough isn’t as messy as I thought it would be. I also didn’t put any dye into the playdough because I knew it might end up in weird places, like the couch. (Just one little piece.) Keeping her in the high chair was key though to containing the mess!
