Apples are in season, and if you have never made homemade applesauce – you should. It is so good and much better than any applesauce you can buy in the store.
The best recipe that I have found is to make it in the crock-pot. My daughter loves homemade applesauce. We serve it on top of our oatmeal or cottage cheese, or eat it plain.
With this recipe, the hardest part is peeling and cutting up all the apples. It is a pain, but once that is done, that’s all you have to do.
This recipe is a great way to use up old apples. I throw in whatever kind of apples I have laying around the bottom of frig. It doesn’t matter if the apples are old in wrinkly – throw them in!
It will seem like you are chopping a lot of apples, but the apples cook down considerably! You will be surprised at how little applesauce you end up with. But, it’s worth it!
Applesauce freezes very well, and can stay in a covered container in the frigerator for up to two weeks.
Slow Cooker Cinnamon Applesauce
I use my largest crock-pot for this recipe.
Ingredients:
10-12 medium apples
1 cup water
3 teaspoons cinnamon
2 teaspoons lemon juice
1/4 cup sugar
1. Wash, peel, and core the apples. Chuck them into chunks.
2. Combine all ingredients in crock-pot and stir well.
3. Cook on low for about 8 hours, stirring every hour or so, until the apples are completely cooked through.
If the apple sauce is too chunky for your taste, you can run it through a food processor or blender.
Note: My favorite apples in the entire world come from Gillogly Orchard. The orchard is located in Albany, Ohio. They sell at the Worthington Farmers’ Market and at the Athens Farmers’ Market. I always use their apples in my applesauce. I love all their varieties of apples, and their apple cider is wonderful too!

I was looking for an applesauce recipe to try this year! Thanks so much!
You’re welcome! This is one of my favorite recipes. I make a ton of applesauce all fall so we can eat it all winter and spring. Made-home applesauce is so yummy!
You need to order The Pampered Chef apple corer…I just made this recipe and peeled and cored 13 apples in less than 10 minutes!! It is well worth the cost if you love apple recipes.
That is awesome! I’ll have to look into getting one of those. It takes me a lot longer than 10 minutes to get my apples ready for this recipe.
